After the success of Burger King’s Impossible Whopper, BK added another plant-based meat replacement product to the menu. This time the meatless item is a breakfast sandwich.

Burger King’s Impossible Croissan’wich is a vegetarian twist on Burger King’s iconic croissant breakfast sandwich. In addition to an Impossible Foods plant-based sausage patty, the Impossible Sausage Croissan’wich contains eggs and a slice of American cheese, served on a croissant made with real butter.

Other than the Impossible Breakfast Sausage Patty, this sandwich is identical to Burger King’s Sausage, Egg and Cheese Croissan’wich. So we can ask ourselves which Croissan’wich to choose to start the day?

If you’re vegan, the answer is neither. The Impossible Croissan’wich is not vegan, even if you request no egg and no cheese. Although the Impossible sausage is made with vegan ingredients, Burger King cooks the sausages on the same griddle used for meat, likely leading to cross-contamination. Additionally, the croissant contains butter.

Impossible™ Breakfast Sandwiches – Burger King

For vegetarians, the picture is a little rosier. Everything about the Impossible Croissan’wich is vegetarian. However, as we mentioned earlier, your plant-based sausage patty may come into contact with animal fats on the communal grill.

But what about those who are simply looking for a healthier alternative to the Sausage, Egg and Cheese Croissan’wich? Is the Impossible Croissan’wich healthier? This is a question without a clear answer.

When it comes to calories, the difference between the two Croissan’wiches is small. The Impossible Plant-Based Croissan’wich contains 491 calories, just 4.5% fewer than the 515 calories of the regular Sausage Croissan’wich. The Impossible Croissan’wich also contains slightly less fat than its animal-based counterpart, and both sandwiches contain a similar amount of sugar, sodium, and protein.

On the other hand, the amount of cholesterol is very different between the Impossible Croissan’wich and the regular sausage Croissan’wich. The plant-based Impossible Croissan’wich contains 45% more cholesterol!

Overall, it seems that the Impossible Croissan’wich should not be considered a healthy alternative to Burger King’s Sausage Croissan’wich. Rather, it should be considered as a meat-free alternative, with similar nutritional value. It is not a surprise.
